Ash Wednesday – our Lenten journey begins

On Ash Wednesday about 40 of us gathered to begin the journey of reflection, repentance, and renewal with a service of ashes.

Rev. Todd Farnsworth reflected on the Bible text: Joel 2:1-2, 12-17 and specifically this passage, “Change your life, not just your clothes. Come back to God, your God. And here’s why: God is kind and merciful. He takes a deep breath, puts up with a lot, this most patient God, extravagant in love, always ready to cancel catastrophe.” (Joel 2:13).

Rev. Farnsworth also asked that we choose an action word to take with us on our Lenten journey, to help us focus our minds as we contemplate coming back to God.

These action words were – reconcile, learn, look outside, pray, have mercy, know yourself.

We received ashes as a mark of our participation in the journey, as a mark of our being fellow sojourners through Lent and through life.

Please sojourn with us, choose an action word to help focus your “coming back to God” this Lenten season.
