Womens Society

We welcome all women of the church and community to our Women’s Society to join us in planning and participating in projects that support our church and benefit our community.

Beyond service we cherish the fellowship that it provides us at our regularly scheduled monthly meetings. We enjoy putting our heads together to work out details or challenges that may appear in getting a project completed

These are some of our regular activities that you can take part in:

BCC Rummage Sale

Our well-known, well-loved Rummage Sale generally takes place on one Saturday in early spring. It not only presents an opportunity of service for us, but provides a sense of community with the many friends and neighbors, “the rummage angels”, who return yearly to help us.

We welcome you to join us to be a part of the activities that make rummage happen, working together towards a common goal. When we lunch together during the week of set-up for the sale, we share ideas and stories and really get to know one another. While the Women’s Society plans and organizes the many details of rummage, it ultimately becomes a community-wide effort to make it all come true.

If you’d like to volunteer at Rummage Sale this spring, please be in touch with the church office and leave your contact information.

Flowers

Flowers enhance our sanctuary year-round, arranged by the Women’s Society and placed on the Communion Table to welcome the congregation.

Donating flowers is a meaningful way to honor loved ones or celebrate special occasions. We especially enjoy beautiful arrangements at Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving, when a cornucopia of winter produce is displayed. After services, flowers are donated to local organizations.

The Women’s Society also maintains the flower troughs at the church’s entrances, sharing joy with all who pass by. To donate flowers for the Communion Table, contact the church office for available dates.

Book Share

We’re always excited to present our own current “must-read” book at our Book Share on a Saturday every February. So much so that on occasion we have found it helpful to draw numbers to see which person gets to present first.

Topics are wide-ranging and in various formats including audible versions. Adventure, poetry, memoirs, novels, histories, biographies, something to please everyone. There are so many possibilities of good reads later to choose from, that one generous person during the meeting records the info about each book, which ends up as a reference list available online.

Greening

At the beginning of Advent, we look forward to the beauty and meaning of Christmas together.

In one or two joyful gatherings, we come together to transform the sanctuary, bringing the season’s warmth and welcome to life. We’ll hang garlands, freshen up wreaths, and place them inside and on the church doors to greet all who come. Pillar Candles will light up each stained-glass windowsill, creating a beautiful glow. Then, we’ll gather for the Greening Party, where we’ll add the final touches – stringing lights on the Christmas tree and singing beloved carols while enjoying festive treats. It’s always such a special and happy time.

Craft Project

Every November, we’re lucky to have a talented retired art teacher lead us in a fun and creative craft project on a Saturday. It’s a great chance to roll up our sleeves, work side-by-side, and share tips as we bring our ideas to life.

By the end of the day, everyone leaves with something beautiful to show off or take home. Not feeling crafty? No worries – you can also help out by cutting and stringing colorful tags for our Giving Tree. These tags help guide us in spreading holiday cheer by giving to local charities at Christmas. Come join the fun!

Cookie Packing

We share our love for others on Valentines Day by packing pretty bags full of delectable cookies and treats to distribute around the community.

Many of us enjoy baking, so we love this annual opportunity to bake batches of delicious cookies to help fill the bags. Of course, you don’t have to be a baker to join in and make this special February event come to life. It’s truly a team effort. We invite you to join us in spreading love and sweetness to our neighbors.

Spring Outing

After a busy church year in Women’s Society activities, we feel like it’s time to play when May rolls around.

We ponder the many possibilities – art exhibits, museum visits, boat trips, theatre, and so on.

All ideas are welcome. Part of the fun is having lunch after the chosen activity to talk about the day we’ve had together.
