Geoff & Suzie

What brought you to BCC?

We were looking for a church closer to our home. After visiting at least five local churches, we came to BCC. We were raised Episcopalian and Methodist and felt very comfortable with the Congregational church. We felt welcome right away and fell in love with the strong music program.

What keeps you here at BCC?

The Music Ministry drew us here and we love Fimi (Dr. Hui-Mei Lin, the Choir Director ). She is an incredible musician and it is a pleasure to sing with her as she always encourages every member of the choir. We have become a part of the choir family and made good friends.  We always walk away with something to ponder and take with us for the week from [Pastor] Bonnie’s sermons.   We also like the flow of the service and what it offers. Geoff became a deacon and was honored to serve the church.

Kim & Brooks

What brought you to BCC?

We live in the same community as Kim’s parents and we knew they loved BCC and were warmly welcomed, so we started attending BCC. We also wanted a church that welcomed children and was closer to our home than our previous church. We liked that we saw other families about the same as our children and we knew they had a nursery for our youngest.

What keeps you here at BCC?

There is a sense of comfort and feeling that everyone is accepted. We love the Sunday School and how each week during the beginning of the service the children all go running up to hear and be a part of the Children’s Sermon with Pastor Bonnie. Church was an important part of Kim’s childhood and we want that for our children. When life is hard, church is important and a place that makes you feel safe. You can find peace and a restful place on Sunday and you are refreshed and new for the week.

What do you want someone looking for a church to know about BCC?

No matter who you are, everyone is accepted and welcomed. For families with children, the kids love to go to Sunday school. They learn about the Christian faith, Jesus and the Bible. It has everything you’d want in a Sunday School. And there is a safe and nurturing environment for infants and toddlers. Our youngest always asks to go to the nursery with Miss MaryAnn.

What brought you to BCC?

My next-door neighbor was a member and invited me to come to church. I had grown up Methodist and as a young adult had familiarity with the social justice and democratic aspect of UCC churches so I was immediately comfortable with a UCC congregation.

What keeps you here at BCC?

About 20 years ago, a former pastor had started a job support group and introduced me to a core number of people. From there, I felt very comfortable participating and serving in other ways: Buildings & Grounds, Trustees, choir, to name a few of them. The highlight of my experience here was leading the effort to compose our “Open and Affirming” (OFA) statement four years ago. Worship at BCC centers my life and helps me deal with the complications of everyday. Our denomination allows us to question. We don’t have to accept everything at face value and this contributes greatly to spiritual growth.

What do you want someone looking for a church to know about BCC?

Our members have many faith backgrounds and there are quite a few that come from multi-faith families like my own. We can accept each other for where we are in our individual faith journeys.
